Discord

Discord grew out of Phoenix Guild, a game studio Jason Citron started in April 2012, and the chat app launched in May 2015. Citron and CTO Stanislav Vishnevskiy built it. Humam Sakhnini became CEO in April 2025, and Citron moved to the board.

It builds the Discord app for text, voice and video chat in communities and between friends. Its features include Nitro subscriptions, Activities, Soundboard, Go Live streaming, Server Boosting, Quests and a Social SDK for game developers.

Discord reports more than 90 million daily active users (internal data, Q4 2025). It does not publish a headcount. Its careers page lists offices in San Francisco and Amsterdam and a flexible model of working from home, an office or both.
