Mistral AI

Mistral AI was founded in April 2023 in Paris by Arthur Mensch, Guillaume Lample and Timothee Lacroix. Its first employee joined on 5 June 2023, and it is a privately held company backed by investors including ASML, which led a EUR 2 billion round in September 2025, per Wikipedia.

It builds frontier AI models, many with open weights, including Mistral Large, Mistral Small, Codestral, Devstral, Magistral and Voxtral, and the assistant Le Chat, renamed Vibe in 2026. It also sells sovereign AI, cloud inference and compute, and industry services for energy, manufacturing, finance and the public sector.

Its careers page says 900+ people from 30+ nationalities (2026); Wikipedia says 1,000+. Beyond Paris, third-party job boards point to London, Palo Alto and Singapore, and the company announced a Munich hub on 28 September 2026.
