Wix

Wix was founded in Israel in 2006 by Avishai Abrahami, Nadav Abrahami and Giora Kaplan; the idea came while they were building a website for another startup. It is headquartered on its campus in Tel Aviv and has been listed on Nasdaq since 2013.

Its cloud platform lets people and businesses create websites and run them: the Wix editor, Wix Studio for agencies and professionals, and business tools such as payments. In 2025 it bought Base44, a platform for building apps with AI. Wix says it has more than 300 million users in 190 countries.

Engineering runs a large microservices architecture, mostly in Scala and Node.js, with Kafka as its event backbone. Wix open-sources tools such as Detox and react-native-navigation and writes on the Wix Engineering blog; its teams work in Israel, Europe, the Americas and Ukraine.
