About the event

This hackathon is a new opportunity to bring together the Codex community in Chile. It will be hosted by the Facultad de Ingeniería de la Universidad del Desarrollo, in a day whose goal is to create a functional game. The idea is not to settle for the result of a single prompt: we want to see how teams work and iterate on gameplay, art and game quality, putting their ideas to the test.

The hackathon is in person only and free, with registration subject to approval.

Who can take part

We are looking for people eager to build and collaborate. You can contribute with programming, game design, art, music and sound, testing, and any other area relevant to creating the game.

No prior experience with Codex is needed. Selection will consider your motivation, availability and what you can bring to collaborative work; your experience level will not be a selection filter.

Schedule and venue

  • Monday 23 November 2026, 09:00 to 19:00, Santiago time.
  • Aula Magna UDD, Campus Rector Ernesto Silva Bafalluy, Av. Plaza 680, Las Condes, Santiago.

What to bring

  • Your laptop and charger.

Registration and teams

Registration is individual, and teams can have up to four members.

  • If you already have a team: each member must register separately and enter the same team name.
  • If you are looking for a team: you can still register and indicate this in the form.

Submitting the form does not confirm your place: registration requires approval.

What we will build and how it is judged

The goal is to develop a playable prototype, worked on and iterated with Codex during the day.

The jury will be made up of video game professionals, with perspectives from development, art and the experience of players. The jury will evaluate the functional and playable prototype, not slides, videos or a sales pitch. What matters is building: a presentation does not replace the game running.

The qualitative criteria are:

  • Gameplay: how clear, entertaining and coherent the play experience is.
  • Art: how the visual and sound proposal contributes to the game.
  • Execution and polish: how it works, the quality of implementation and the improvements made from testing.
  • Originality: the game's proposal and how it develops its ideas.
  • Work and iteration with Codex: how Codex was used to build, test and improve the prototype, beyond a first generation.

Open games to learn from

Each team must publish its game code in a public repository under an open source license, with instructions to run it and identification of third-party resources used and their licenses.

This will allow the project terms to be reviewed and the community to learn from the teams' work.

Prizes

  • 🥇 First place: US$1,000 in API credits for the team.
  • 🥈 Second place: US$500 in API credits for the team.
  • 🥉 Third place: US$250 in API credits for the team.

In addition, each member of each of the three winning teams will receive one free year of ChatGPT Pro.

All selected participants who attend in person will receive US$100 in Codex credits and US$50 in API credits per person, to build during the hackathon.

Food and drinks will also be shared throughout the day so teams can focus only on building.

The event is organised by Alonso Astroza, the local Codex Ambassador, with the collaboration of the Ingeniería Informática degree programme at the Universidad del Desarrollo.
