The opportunity

At Unity, our role doesn't stop at creation: we support studios in growing what they have built and in connecting their titles with the players who will matter to them, through an ad system that makes billions of real-time decisions every day.

Each of those decisions must respect what a player has consented to, across dozens of jurisdictions whose rules contradict each other and are rewritten every year. Getting this right at such scale is a permanent technical challenge. It belongs to our Ads Privacy team, which owns privacy compliance alongside the ad moderation and fraud prevention systems on which the network's trust depends.

In this role, you will take full ownership of critical services, from design through production. Your ground will be the request path, where a wrong answer costs twice: in legal exposure and in revenue.

What you'll be doing

• Build and operate the systems that carry consent and opt-out signals from the SDK through to the auction, at high queries per second (QPS), and own their latency, correctness and reliability
• Own the fulfilment of data subject requests: orchestrate deletion across all systems and downstream teams, track it to completion, and uphold the service level agreement (SLA)
• Translate changing regulations (GDPR, CCPA) into per-jurisdiction configuration and enforcement, delivered without a code change per country
• Build the measurement and auditing that prove the whole is working, and challenge it as soon as it stops working
• Contribute to the team's wider trust and safety scope: content policy enforcement at scale, deduplication and labeling, and tooling that detects and mitigates fraud across the marketplace
• Work with legal and privacy counsel to turn evolving requirements into systems that hold up, and with machine learning and data teams to take models and pipelines into production
• Set your own priorities and drive work across team boundaries

What we're looking for

• Experience designing low-latency APIs and distributed backend services proven in production at high QPS
• Proficiency in implementing scalable code in Golang; Java also welcome
• Hands-on experience operating services on cloud infrastructure, with Kubernetes and container orchestration
• Experience with streaming platforms such as Kafka, and with event-driven system design
• Comfort working on systems whose correctness is verified by external audits and whose requirements are set outside development
• Clear written and verbal communication, and the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team

You might also have

• Experience in AdTech and knowledge of IAB frameworks such as the TCF
• A background in privacy engineering, trust and safety, or fraud detection
• Informed understanding of global data and privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA, and those that succeed them)
• Experience with SQL, NoSQL and key-value stores: Postgres, MongoDB, Redis
• Established collaboration with machine learning or data teams to bring models and pipelines into production
• Experience with infrastructure as code and observability: Terraform, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry

Base Salary Range: 125,300 - $165,330 CAD

This range reflects the anticipated base salary for this position. Beyond base salary, this role may be eligible for equity awards and participation in our company incentive plans (such as annual discretionary bonuses or sales commissions). The final offer amount will depend on several factors, including geographic location and the candidate's relevant experience, professional background and skill set.
