About
Adyen was founded in Amsterdam in 2006 by a team including Pieter van der Does and Arnout Schuijff, who had built the payments company Bibit before. It has been listed on Euronext Amsterdam since 2018.
It runs a single financial technology platform, built entirely in-house, that combines online and in-store payments, data and embedded financial products for large businesses and platforms. It holds its own banking licences in the EU, the US and the UK.
Adyen's engineers favour open-source and home-grown technology: Java services on PostgreSQL, with Kafka, Spark and Airflow behind the data platform. The company works office-first from 29 offices in 21 countries and publishes its engineering writing on the Adyen Knowledge Hub.
