About
Amazon was founded by Jeff Bezos in 1994 in Seattle as an online bookstore and grew into one of the world's largest retailers and logistics networks. It is headquartered in Seattle, with a second headquarters in Arlington, Virginia.
Amazon Web Services (AWS), launched in 2006, is the largest public cloud provider and the company's main source of profit. Beyond retail and AWS, Amazon builds devices (Kindle, Echo, Fire TV), runs Prime Video, Audible and Twitch, and sells advertising.
Its technology teams work in development centres across North America, Europe, Asia and Latin America. Engineering culture is organised around small "two-pizza" teams that own their services end to end.
