About

ASML was founded in 1984 as a joint venture of Philips and ASM International to build lithography systems for chipmakers. It is headquartered in Veldhoven, the Netherlands, and is listed on Euronext Amsterdam and Nasdaq.

It makes the machines that print circuit patterns onto silicon wafers. It is the only supplier of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography systems, including the new High-NA EUV generation, and it also builds deep ultraviolet (DUV) scanners, metrology and inspection systems and computational lithography software. Almost every leading chipmaker runs its advanced fabs on ASML machines.

According to its website, ASML had more than 44,000 employees (full-time equivalents) in 2025, of 143 nationalities, in more than 60 locations. Most of its research, development and manufacturing is in Veldhoven, with further R&D and production sites in Wilton (Connecticut), San Diego and San Jose in the US, Berlin, Delft and Linkou in Taiwan, and customer support teams next to chip fabs in Taiwan, South Korea, China, Japan and the US.
