About

Bosch was founded in 1886 by Robert Bosch in Stuttgart as a workshop for precision mechanics and electrical engineering. The group is headquartered in Gerlingen near Stuttgart and is owned about 94 percent by the charitable Robert Bosch Stiftung, which holds most voting rights through an industrial trust; it is not listed on a stock exchange.

The group makes mobility technology, industrial technology, consumer goods and building technology, and increasingly software. Bosch Digital is its digital business unit, supporting the group in building and selling digital business and scalable solutions. ETAS, founded in 1994 as a Bosch subsidiary in Stuttgart, sells basic software, measurement and calibration tools such as INCA, AUTOSAR Classic (RTA-CAR), the Vehicle Software Platform Suite, and tools for diagnostics and cybersecurity. Bosch Global Software Technologies runs engineering centres in India, Vietnam, Mexico and Poland. The research campus in Renningen hosts central research and the Bosch Center for Artificial Intelligence.

According to the company, Bosch had about 412,800 associates worldwide on December 31, 2025 and sales of 91.0 billion euros in 2025. About 82,100 researchers and developers work at 136 locations, and R&D spending was 7.9 billion euros. ETAS alone has about 2,700 associates at 39 locations in 14 countries and sales of 542 million euros in 2025. Bosch does not publish a headcount for Bosch Digital.
