About

Bungie was founded in May 1991 in Chicago by Alex Seropian and Jason Jones. Microsoft owned it from 2000 to 2007, it was independent until 2022, and Sony Interactive Entertainment completed its $3.6 billion acquisition in July 2022. Its global headquarters is in Bellevue, Washington.

It created Marathon, Myth, Halo and Destiny, and released a Marathon reboot in 2026. Its careers site also describes an incubation program for future games.

Bungie does not publish a headcount on its own pages. Wikipedia cites about 1,600 people before the October 2023 layoffs, about 850 after July 2024 and a 2026 estimate of about 500, with nearly 300 more affected in June 2026. Its careers site names only the Bellevue headquarters and lists remote roles in the United States.
