About

Dell was founded in 1984 by Michael Dell as PC's Limited, with $1,000 in his University of Texas dorm room. Dell Technologies took its current form in 2016 with the acquisition of EMC, and it is headquartered in Round Rock, Texas.

It builds PCs, servers, storage, networking and AI data-centre infrastructure, and has about 97,000 employees. It spends around $3.1 billion a year on R&D, mostly on the software inside its systems.

Dell's engineers work from sites across the United States, Ireland, Poland, Israel, India and Asia, and publish open-source Kubernetes storage drivers, Ansible modules and Terraform providers on GitHub.
