About

Docker began as dotCloud, founded in Paris in 2008 by Kamel Founadi, Solomon Hykes and Sebastien Pahl. It was incorporated in the United States in 2010 and renamed Docker, Inc. on 29 October 2013. Its headquarters address is in Palo Alto, California. In November 2019 it sold its enterprise business to Mirantis. It is a private company.

It builds tools for packaging and running applications in containers: Docker Desktop, Docker Hub, the registry for container images, and the open source Docker Engine and BuildKit, which are part of the Moby project. Docker says its tools are trusted by more than 20 million developers and now presents itself as a platform for building, running and governing AI applications and agents securely.

Docker does not publish a headcount; Revelio Labs estimated about 877 employees worldwide in December 2025. The company describes itself as remote first, with employees across Europe, APAC and the Americas, and its contact page lists a single office address in Palo Alto.
