About

Elastic grew out of Elasticsearch, the open-source search engine Shay Banon first released in 2010; he founded the company in Amsterdam in 2012 with Steven Schuurman, Uri Boness and Simon Willnauer. Elastic N.V. has been listed on the New York Stock Exchange since 2018.

Its Search AI Platform, built on Elasticsearch and Kibana, is sold as search, observability and security solutions, either self-managed or as Elastic Cloud on AWS, Google Cloud and Azure. The Elastic Stack also includes Logstash and Beats, and since 2024 Elasticsearch is again available under an open-source licence, the AGPL.

Elastic is a distributed company with no principal executive office; its registered office is in Amsterdam. According to its fiscal 2026 annual report it had 4,019 employees in more than 40 countries, with offices from San Francisco and New York to Singapore, Tokyo and Bengaluru. Elasticsearch is written in Java on Apache Lucene, and Kibana in TypeScript and React.
