About
Figma was founded in 2012 by Dylan Field and Evan Wallace, who met as students at Brown University; Field leads it as CEO. It is headquartered in San Francisco and has been listed on the New York Stock Exchange since July 2025, after Adobe's planned acquisition was abandoned in 2023.
Figma started as a browser-based interface design tool with real-time multiplayer editing and grew into a platform for the whole product team: Figma Design, Dev Mode, FigJam whiteboards, Figma Slides, Figma Sites and Figma Make for building from prompts. According to its 2025 annual report, revenue passed $1 billion that year, and about two-thirds of its monthly active users are not designers.
The editor is written in C++ compiled to WebAssembly and drawn on the GPU, with a TypeScript and React interface around it; the multiplayer service is written in Rust. At the end of 2025 Figma had 1,886 employees in 14 offices in 11 countries, with hubs in New York, Seattle, London, Paris, Berlin, Tokyo, Singapore, Bengaluru, Sydney, São Paulo and Tel Aviv.
