Google

Google was founded in 1998 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, two Stanford PhD students, around a search engine that ranked pages by the links pointing to them. Since 2015 it has been the main subsidiary of Alphabet Inc., headquartered at the Googleplex in Mountain View, California.

Its products reach billions of people: Search, Chrome, Android, YouTube, Maps, Gmail and Google Workspace. Google Cloud sells the same infrastructure to businesses - compute, BigQuery, Vertex AI and the Gemini models built by Google DeepMind.

Engineering is spread across more than 50 countries, with large sites in Zurich, London, Munich, Bengaluru, Tokyo and Sydney. Google created or maintains widely used open source such as Kubernetes, TensorFlow, Go, Angular and Flutter.
