About
Hyundai Motor Company was founded on 29 December 1967 by Chung Ju-yung and is headquartered in Seoul, South Korea. It is listed on the Korea Exchange and is the flagship carmaker of Hyundai Motor Group, alongside Kia and Genesis.
Its software side is led by the group's Advanced Vehicle Platform (AVP) Division and 42dot, which Hyundai bought in 2022 and which the group describes as its global software center, based in Pangyo, Seongnam. In March 2025 the group launched Pleos, its software brand for software-defined vehicles: an in-house vehicle OS on a zonal E&E architecture, the Pleos Connect infotainment system built on Android Automotive OS, and the Pleos Playground developer platform. 42dot also builds autonomous driving AI, fleet AI and the Gleo in-vehicle AI agent.
Hyundai's press release of 30 June 2026 says it has more than 120,000 employees in over 200 countries (no year given for the count). Its main R&D hub is the Namyang R&D Center in Hwaseong. Software work is spread over 42dot's hubs in Pangyo, Sunnyvale, Warsaw and Ho Chi Minh City, AVP China in Shanghai, and engineering centers in Rüsselsheim, Yantai and Michigan.
