About

Intel was founded in 1968 by Robert Noyce and Gordon Moore and is headquartered in Santa Clara, California. Its x86 architecture, starting with the 8086 of 1978, still runs most of the world's PCs and servers.

It designs Core processors for PCs and Xeon for data centres, and - unlike most chip companies - also manufactures them. Intel Foundry runs fabs in Oregon, Arizona, Ireland and Israel and makes chips for other companies too.

Intel is one of the largest contributors to the Linux kernel and maintains open tooling such as oneAPI and OpenVINO. Its design and research centres are spread across the Americas, Europe and Asia.
