About
Larian Studios was founded in 1996 by Swen Vincke in a small office in Ghent, Belgium, where it is still headquartered. It is privately held, with Tencent as a minority shareholder.
It makes role-playing games: the Divinity series, including Divinity: Original Sin and Divinity: Original Sin II, and Baldur's Gate 3, released in 2023, which won more than 200 Game of the Year awards. The games run on its in-house Divinity Engine, and its teams cover engine, graphics, gameplay and tools programming, scripting and machine learning.
Larian's own site says it has grown to more than 300 people, while Wikipedia gives 530 employees for 2025. It works from seven studios: Ghent, Quebec, Dublin, Kuala Lumpur, Guildford, Barcelona and Warsaw.
