About

Lenovo was founded in Beijing in 1984 by Liu Chuanzhi and ten engineers with about US$25,000, originally under the name Legend. It listed in Hong Kong in 1994, became Lenovo in 2003 and bought IBM's PC business, ThinkPad included, in 2005.

In 2014 it added IBM's x86 servers and Motorola's smartphones, and it has been the world's number one PC maker since 2013. Today it builds devices, servers, storage and AI infrastructure and sells in 180 markets; it has headquarters in Beijing and Morrisville, North Carolina.

Lenovo runs more than 20 R&D locations worldwide, from Beijing, Shanghai and Yokohama to Raleigh and Stuttgart, and in 2026 added AI centres in London and Edinburgh and a Digital Trust Lab in Tel Aviv.
