About
LinkedIn began in co-founder Reid Hoffman's living room in 2002 and launched officially on 5 May 2003. Microsoft completed its acquisition of the company in December 2016, and LinkedIn now operates as a Microsoft subsidiary. Its global headquarters is a campus in Sunnyvale, California.
It runs the professional social network and builds around it: membership subscriptions such as LinkedIn Premium, advertising through LinkedIn Ads and recruitment solutions for employers. The company says the network has more than 1 billion members in more than 200 countries and territories.
LinkedIn's careers site says it has over 19,000 employees (as read in October 2026), working from home or from one of its offices. Its careers site lists 35 offices on five continents, with Sunnyvale, Dublin and Bangalore as featured hubs; Dublin is described as the international headquarters.
