LY Corporation was formed on January 31, 1996 as the company later known as Yahoo Japan and is listed in Japan, where it went public on JASDAQ in November 1997. It is the holding company behind Yahoo! JAPAN and LINE, formerly separate businesses, and is headquartered in Kioi Tower in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo.

It develops online advertising, e-commerce and members services, and manages group companies. Its engineers work on LINE (Messaging Platform, Sticker, Creators Market), PayPay, an AI platform and agents, a private cloud called Flava, and Android and iOS apps, with LLMs and machine learning.

As of June 30, 2026 the group had 143 subsidiaries and 38 affiliates. The pages checked do not state an employee count. Its engineering recruiting page names Tokyo, Osaka and Fukuoka as work locations.
