About

Monzo was founded on 18 February 2015 as Mondo by Tom Blomfield, Gary Dolman, Jason Bates, Jonas Huckestein and Paul Rippon, and renamed Monzo in 2016. It is a British online bank headquartered in London, with a second UK office in Cardiff.

It offers current accounts, savings, loans, business accounts, Monzo Plus and Premium subscriptions and insurance. Its website says it serves more than 16 million personal and business customers. It received a full Irish banking licence in December 2025 and has an office in Dublin. On GitHub it publishes open source tools such as Typhon, a Go library behind its microservices, and an egress operator for Kubernetes and Envoy.

According to Wikipedia, Monzo had 5,275 employees in 2026; its own site gives no headcount. Its jobs board lists roles in London, Cardiff, Dublin, Barcelona, Madrid and remote within the UK.
