About
Paystack was founded in 2015 in Lagos, Nigeria, by Shola Akinlade and Ezra Olubi. Stripe announced its acquisition in October 2020 for a reported price above 200 million US dollars, and Paystack now operates as a Stripe subsidiary.
It builds payment processing for African businesses, covering online and offline transactions, with checkout and developer tools that plug into platforms such as Shopify and WooCommerce. It operates in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and South Africa.
Paystack does not publish a headcount. TechCrunch cited LinkedIn data of over 150 employees in November 2023, when it cut 33 roles in Europe and the UAE to focus on Africa. Offices reported by the press are Lagos, Accra, Nairobi and Cape Town.
