About
Pinterest was started by Ben Silbermann, Paul Sciarra and Evan Sharp: development began in December 2009 and a prototype went to closed beta in March 2010. It grew out of Tote, an earlier catalogue app by Silbermann and Sciarra. The company moved from Palo Alto to San Francisco in 2012, and it has been listed on the New York Stock Exchange as PINS since April 2019. Its headquarters are at 651 Brannan Street, San Francisco.

It runs Home Feed, Search, Related Pins and Boards, sells advertising through Ads Manager and formats such as shopping, video and collection ads, offers the Pinterest API and Conversions API, and has the Performance+ AI campaign tool. The 10-K reports 619 million monthly active users at the end of 2025. Its careers site also lists tvScientific as a department.

It leases about 120,000 square feet at its San Francisco headquarters and about 604,000 square feet in all offices, and its careers site lists offices across North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia Pacific, plus remote and hybrid roles.
