About
Rappi was founded in Bogota in 2015 by Simón Borrero, Sebastián Mejía and Felipe Villamarín, and went through Y Combinator in 2016. It became one of Latin America's first tech unicorns in 2018, and in 2019 SoftBank invested about 1 billion US dollars in it.
Its super app delivers restaurant meals, groceries, pharmacy items and parcels, often within minutes through the Turbo service, and adds the Rappi Prime membership, travel and entertainment bookings, and financial services under RappiPay and RappiCard. Rappi operates in nine countries: Colombia, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Uruguay and Costa Rica.
The company is privately held and headquartered in Bogota, with its largest teams in Colombia, Mexico and Brazil. Its engineers build the ordering, courier logistics and payments platform in the cloud, with data science behind search, delivery times and pricing.
