About

Reddit was founded in June 2005 by University of Virginia roommates Steve Huffman and Alexis Ohanian in the first Y Combinator class. It was sold to Condé Nast in 2006 and became an independent subsidiary of Advance Publications in 2011; Advance remains its principal stockholder. Reddit went public on the New York Stock Exchange as RDDT on March 21, 2024. Huffman is its chief executive, and its headquarters are at 303 2nd Street, South Tower, in San Francisco.

It runs the Reddit network of topic communities and earns mainly from advertising, with products such as Reddit Pro for businesses and publishers, Dynamic Product Ads, Conversation Summary Add-ons, Reddit Insights and the AI search tool Reddit Answers. Machine translation is live in 35 languages. The FY2025 annual report counts an average of 121.4 million daily active uniques in the fourth quarter of 2025, 68.9 million of them outside the US.

Reddit had 2,555 employees on December 31, 2025, 1,981 of them in the United States (FY2025 Form 10-K). Besides San Francisco it leases offices in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and London, and its job board also lists Toronto and Amsterdam, along with remote roles in the US, UK, Netherlands and Canada.
