About
Rockstar Games was founded in New York in 1998 by Sam Houser, Dan Houser, Terry Donovan, Jamie King and Gary Foreman as a label of Take-Two Interactive, which still owns it.
It develops and publishes the Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption series, along with Max Payne, Bully and L.A. Noire. According to Take-Two, Grand Theft Auto V has sold more than 230 million copies and Red Dead Redemption 2 more than 87 million.
Rockstar works as a network of studios in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, India and Australia; Rockstar North in Edinburgh, which began as DMA Design, leads the series. Its games run on the in-house RAGE engine, with C++ and C# for game and tools code and Python, Java and Kafka behind the online services.
