About
SEGA began in 1960 as Nihon Goraku Bussan, which made the SEGA 1000 jukebox, and took the name SEGA Enterprises in 1965 and SEGA Corporation in 2000. It launched the Mega Drive (Genesis) in 1988, the Sonic the Hedgehog series in 1991 and the Dreamcast in 1998. Since 2004 it has been part of SEGA SAMMY Holdings, and its headquarters is the Osaki office in Shinagawa, Tokyo.
It makes and publishes console, PC and mobile games, among them Sonic the Hedgehog, Yakuza / Like a Dragon, Persona and Metaphor: ReFantazio (through Atlus, which joined the group in 2013), and the Finnish studio behind Angry Birds, Rovio, joined in 2023. The group also includes SEGA FAVE (arcade machines and toys, formed in 2024), anime studio TMS Entertainment and the darts platform Dartslive.
SEGA Corporation reported 2,922 employees as of 31 March 2026. Its own pages describe the Osaki headquarters, a motion capture studio in Haneda and the Shinagawa DOCKYARD amusement development base; its overseas offices are not listed on the pages opened.
