About

SpaceX was founded by Elon Musk in March 2002 in El Segundo, California. It moved its headquarters from Hawthorne, California to Starbase, Texas in 2024 and has been listed on Nasdaq as SPCX since 12 June 2026.

It builds the Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy launch vehicles, the Dragon spacecraft, the Starship vehicle in development, the Starlink satellite internet service and Starshield for government programmes. After taking over xAI in February 2026 it also runs an AI division, SpaceXAI, which includes the Grok models and the X social network.

According to Wikipedia, SpaceX had 22,621 employees in April 2026. Hawthorne remains the main production site for the Falcon rockets, engines are tested in McGregor, Texas, and crewed launches fly from Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
