Tata Consultancy Services was set up in Bombay in 1968 as a division of Tata Sons, part of the Tata Group, with F. C. Kohli as its first general manager. It is headquartered in Mumbai, has been listed on the Indian stock exchanges since 2004 and is one of the most valuable companies in India.

TCS provides IT services, consulting and business solutions: application development and maintenance, cloud, data and AI, enterprise platforms, engineering and business process services. It also sells its own products, among them TCS BaNCS for banking, capital markets and insurance, the ignio AIOps platform and TCS iON for education and assessments. Its revenue for fiscal 2026 was more than 30 billion US dollars.

According to its results for the quarter ended June 2026, TCS had 593,798 people, making it one of the largest private employers in the world. Most of them work from large campuses across India, and the company runs delivery centres in 55 countries, including nearshore centres in Hungary, Mexico, Uruguay, Brazil, China and the Philippines.
