About
Tesla was founded in 2003 by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning; Elon Musk joined as chairman in 2004 and later became chief executive. It is headquartered at Gigafactory Texas in Austin.
It makes electric cars (Model S, 3, X, Y and Cybertruck), battery energy storage (Powerwall, Megapack) and solar products, and runs a worldwide Supercharger network. Much of its technology is built in-house: vehicle software, driver assistance, batteries, motors and the factories themselves.
Tesla builds cars in California, Texas, Berlin-Brandenburg and Shanghai, and its engineering spans hardware, embedded systems, AI and computer vision, and manufacturing automation.
