About

TSMC was founded in 1987 by Dr. Morris Chang and is headquartered in Hsinchu Science Park, Taiwan. It is listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange under 2330, and its American Depositary Shares trade on the NYSE as TSM.

It is the world's largest contract chipmaker: it manufactures semiconductors designed by its customers and does not sell chips under its own brand. According to its website, it runs GIGAFAB 12-inch fabs and 8-inch and 6-inch fabs in Taiwan, plus fabs in Nanjing and Shanghai in China, in Arizona and Washington State in the US, and in Kumamoto, Japan through the majority-owned JASM. A specialty technology fab in Dresden, Germany, has been under construction since 2024.

According to its Form 20-F for 2025, TSMC had 90,557 employees on December 31, 2025, of whom 33,507 worked in Hsinchu Science Park, 24,702 in the Southern Taiwan Science Park, 5,290 in North America and 2,447 in Japan. Customer support and engineering services run from offices in North America, Europe, Japan, China and South Korea.
