About
Twitch grew out of Justin.tv, founded in 2007 by Justin Kan and Emmett Shear, and launched as TwitchTV in public beta on 6 June 2011. Amazon acquired Twitch Interactive in 2014 for US$970 million in cash, and it is now an Amazon business. Its headquarters is in San Francisco.
It is a live streaming service built around games, music and creative content. Viewers and creators use Bits, Subs, Turbo, Prime and Extensions, and the company also runs the TwitchCon events and a developer platform.
Twitch does not publish a headcount. In January 2024 it cut about 500 jobs, 35 percent of its staff; it publishes no current headcount. Its careers site does not list offices.
