About
X, formerly Twitter, was created in March 2006 by Jack Dorsey, Noah Glass, Biz Stone and Evan Williams and launched publicly on 15 July 2006. Elon Musk bought Twitter in October 2022 for 44 billion US dollars, X Corp. was formed in March 2023 to succeed Twitter, Inc., and the service was renamed X in July 2023.
It runs the X social network: short posts, reposts, direct messages, audio and video calls, Spaces, Community Notes, X Premium subscriptions and the Grok chatbot. xAI acquired X Corp. in March 2025, and SpaceX took over xAI in February 2026, so X now belongs to SpaceX's AI division.
X does not publish a headcount that we could confirm, and we could not open its own pages for office locations, so none are listed. Twitter, Inc. was based in San Francisco and had more than 25 offices worldwide before the takeover.
