About
Xero was founded in Wellington in 2006 by Rod Drury and Hamish Edwards. It listed on the New Zealand stock exchange in 2007 and has had its sole listing on the Australian Securities Exchange since 2018. Sukhinder Singh Cassidy has led it as CEO since 2023.
Its cloud platform gives small businesses and their accountants and bookkeepers accounting, payroll, invoicing and payments, an app marketplace and the JAX AI assistant. According to its annual report for the year to March 2026, Xero ended the year with 4.9 million customers and operating revenue of 2.8 billion NZ dollars; in 2025 it bought Melio, a bill-payment platform for small businesses in the United States.
The same report counts 5,114 full-time equivalent employees at the end of March 2026. Xero has offices in New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Singapore and South Africa, with its home base in Wellington. The platform runs on AWS, built largely with .NET and C# on the backend and React on the web, and its public API comes with official SDKs on GitHub.
