About
Zoom was founded in 2011 by Eric Yuan, a former engineering vice president at Cisco WebEx, who still leads it as chairman and CEO; the first version of Zoom Meetings came out in 2013. It is headquartered in San Jose, California, has been listed on Nasdaq since 2019 and took the name Zoom Communications in 2024.
Beyond video meetings it sells Zoom Workplace, with Team Chat, Phone, Docs and the AI Companion, alongside Zoom Contact Center, Webinars, Events and Zoom Rooms. Zoom Phone passed 10 million seats in 2025.
According to its fiscal 2026 annual report, Zoom had 7,438 full-time employees, more than half of them outside the United States; its hubs include Denver, Seattle, London, Amsterdam, Dublin, Bangalore, Singapore, Tokyo and Sydney. The client and media engine are written largely in C++, and Zoom runs its own data centres alongside public clouds such as AWS and Oracle Cloud.
