Job description

Company and team

At Lyft, our mission is to serve and connect. We achieve it by fostering a work environment where everyone finds their place and has the opportunity to thrive.

Lyft Urban Solutions provides the self-service bike and scooter systems that allow millions of people to get around in more than 60 cities around the world. We built the first automated self-service bike system in North America and remain at the forefront of the micromobility revolution. Our systems are present across the world: from Citi Bike in New York to BIXI in Montreal, Divvy in Chicago, Capital Bikeshare in Washington D.C., and iconic systems in Austin, Barcelona, Bogota, Boston, Buenos Aires, Columbus, Detroit, Dubai, London, Madrid, Mexico, Monaco, Pittsburgh, Portland, Rio de Janeiro, San Francisco, Toronto and many other cities.

We are not simply technology suppliers: we operate these systems, developing the software, hardware and operations that allow urban micromobility to function at scale.

Ready to help shape how millions of people move through their cities every day?

We are looking for a passionate product designer to join our Montreal office and become part of Lyft's Micromobility Operations Technology team.

What you will do

As a member of the Operations Technology team, you will be responsible for evolving the platform that drives our company's global field operations. You will design features used in warehouses, vehicles and in the field to make our transportation systems among the most reliable in the world. You will tackle complex technical challenges and champion experiences that delight our operators and optimise their efficiency.

Our Montreal office developed the first automated self-service bike system in North America and continues to work on the platform that supplies state-of-the-art bikes and electric scooters for tens of millions of trips per year.

As a product designer at Lyft, you will take part in every stage of product development, from initial design through design quality validation to launch. You will draw on all your skills in interaction, visual design and product design. Within the Lyft Urban Solutions team, you will be responsible for designing the core user experience features for our bike and scooter users, in the Lyft app and in our market-specific apps.

In many respects, we operate like a start-up: we collaborate closely across different organisations to share a common product vision and ensure product launches. Our design and research teams favour a user-centred approach to create the best possible experience for users around the world. We know how to show ingenuity when needed, while always staying focused on quality and impact.

  • Problem solve, think big, and explore divergent concepts/ideas while understanding how to converge and build iteratively towards your vision.
  • Plan strategically and think tactically as a partner with product and engineering to define the future of the team.
  • Influence the shape of the product with research and data while executing design work using high quality wireframes, mockups, user journeys, and cross-platform interactive prototypes.
  • Advocate for design by sharing your work and presenting cross-functionally, while being able to precisely articulate design rationale.
  • Inspire the entire team (including your cross-functional) partners by bringing new ideas to the table.
  • Create a unified, end-to-end experience through close collaboration with team members from across the Product and Marketing Design Teams.

What we are looking for

  • More than 3 years of experience in UX, UI and HCI, with experience in web and mobile design.
  • Experience working within a small team of engineers, product managers and program managers.
  • Experience designing innovative products for computers and mobile devices.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with user research methods and analysis.
  • Mastery of Figma and other prototyping tools.
  • Excellence in craft design.
  • Ability to work within a cross-functional, humble and highly collaborative team.
  • Enthusiasm for working in a dynamic, fast-growing start-up environment.

As a qualified candidate, you have a track record of delivering successful projects for both users and the business. You are an effective cross-functional partner, an excellent communicator, and able to turn an idea into a concrete solution. Demanding of yourself, you have an eye for detail. Above all, you approach problems holistically and design solutions that are both elegant and simple for complex issues.

Even if you do not have exactly the skills listed above, do not hesitate to apply. We know that talent shows up in many ways.

Benefits

  • Excellent health, dental and vision insurance coverage, as well as life insurance and disability benefit.
  • Mental health support programme.
  • Fertility and family planning support.
  • Pet care benefit.
  • Health savings account (HSA).
  • RRSP contribution options.
  • In addition to the statutory holidays observed in the province, salaried team members are covered by Lyft's flexible paid time off policy. The policy allows team members to take as much time as they need (with manager approval). Hourly team members receive 15 days of paid time off, with one additional day for each year of service.
  • Lyft is proud to support new parents with 18 weeks of paid leave, designed to complement government programmes. Birth, adoptive and foster parents are all eligible.
  • Transportation benefit.

Work arrangement

This position is on-site on a hybrid schedule: team members are required to work in the office 3 days per week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. In addition, hybrid positions offer the flexibility to work from anywhere for up to 4 weeks per year. #Hybrid
