Anthropic acquired Mithril, a one-person startup, and launched a pharmaceutical division.
The startup was developing drugs for two rare forms of muscular dystrophy. Its founder, using Claude, coordinated 11 external laboratories and, in less than 18 months, brought one candidate to promising results in mice.
He is now continuing the work at Anthropic.
Anthropic's net loss for the first half of 2026 rose from $13 billion to $80.7 billion. Of this, $72 billion is an accounting entry due to the rise in the value of convertible bonds.
The IPO is expected in November.

Open models have their own advantages: they can be fine-tuned on your own data and run on your own servers, and they are fast for large volumes of repetitive work.
