Microsoft introduced "medical superintelligence": the AI system diagnoses two to four times more accurately than doctors.

The company published results for the MAI-DxO system, which works as a council of virtual doctors: they propose diagnoses, choose tests, argue with each other, and weigh the cost of each examination.

Results:

• On complex cases from a journal, it reached 83% accuracy. Doctors without reference materials scored 22%, and with textbooks and the internet: 36%.

• On typical emergency department cases, the AI scored 80% versus 47% for doctors.

• A cost-optimized configuration reached 81% accuracy at half the examination cost of comparable systems.

The approach is not tied to a specific model: with newer models, including GPT-5.5, the results have only improved. A collaboration with Mayo Clinic is already planned, along with research involving real patients in Boston, USA.
